А Campaign for an EU Commissioner for Children was launched by Eurochild on 26 June 2019.
European leaders are about to decide on top jobs for the European Commission, the executive arm of the European Union. Over the next five years, these European Commissioners are responsible for proposing legislation and setting EU political and spending priorities.
While children’s rights are guaranteed by law, a lot still remains to be done. 1 in 4 children are at risk of poverty in the EU; social protection systems are often too weak to support families and children in need; hundreds of thousands of children have been separated from their families, some because of poverty or discrimination. With the opportunity of a new European Commission, we seek a European Commissioner for Children in the next mandate of the European Commission 2019-2024. With a political leader responsible for children’s rights, the EU would prioritise fighting the many challenges faced by children.
The campaign was launched to get as many people as possible to sign a petition demanding a European Commissioner for Children in the next mandate of the European Commission and to gain 5,000 signatures and raise visibility of the demand.
National Network for Children joined the Eurochild campaign and we are asking you to sign the petition here with purpose together to bring the highest level of support.
