Construction of the National Network for Children’s future community centre is progressing, and the dream of the Children’s House is already taking shape.
On 2 April 2026, we broke ground on the Children’s House at 44 Sofroniy Vrachanski Street in Sofia. Just over four months later, the foundations of the future building are now in place.
Construction continues with the next levels of the Children’s House, which is expected to open its doors in 2028.
What Will the Children’s House Be?
The Children’s House will be a community centre for early childhood development and a national centre for training and advocacy for children’s rights – a space open to children and young people from across Bulgaria, regardless of their background, social circumstances or health status.
The building will include halls for events and interactive activities, rooms for meetings and training, spaces for sports and play, a cafeteria, a kitchen and a small hostel, as well as working spaces for the National Network for Children.
The centre will offer educational programmes on children’s rights, financial and health literacy, entrepreneurship, environmental awareness, leadership skills and active civic participation. Children and young people will not only be able to take part in activities, but will also have opportunities to express their views, develop their own ideas and participate in decisions and processes that affect them.
The Children’s House will also be a place for parents and families, where they will be able to access support, information and a range of social and educational activities.
It will also host training sessions, meetings and initiatives for professionals and organisations working with children. In this way, the Children’s House will become a home for the National Network for Children community – more than 140 civil society organisations and activists from across Bulgaria – as well as a meeting place for civil society, institutions, businesses, professionals, children and families.
The Children’s House will also operate as a social enterprise, providing young people leaving foster care or institutions, as well as those in vulnerable situations, with opportunities to gain practical work experience and develop professional skills through the House’s various activities.
The cafeteria, kitchen, catering services and small hostel will be part of this model, offering young people opportunities to enter the labour market, while income generated through the social enterprise’s activities will contribute to the long-term sustainability of the centre.
Brick by Brick: Everyone Can Become Part of the Children’s House
Through the “Brick with a Cause” fundraising initiative, anyone can contribute to the construction of the Children’s House. The bricks are available at different donation levels, ranging from €50 to €300, with each one representing a tangible contribution to building the House. The initiative is open to individual donors, companies and organisations alike.
Every donor will have a place on the future “Wall of Hope” inside the Children’s House. The names of those who supported its construction will be engraved on the wall, allowing children, families and everyone who visits the House to see the community of people and organisations that helped make this place possible.
