Challenges facing children in Bulgaria:

One in every three children in Bulgaria lives in poverty, and families do not receive support.

Over 54,000 children droping out of the education system every year. One in every five children does not attend kindergarten, and one in every six does not go to school.

Every second child in our country has experienced violence, and there is no institution in Bulgaria that collects and analyzes cases of violence.

We still do not have a children's hospital. There are not enough pediatricians, and children's healthcare continues to be expensive for parents, despite being free according to the Constitution.

In Bulgaria, children are sentenced for actions for which adults are not punished, under an outdated law from 1956, without having access to support and rehabilitation services.

With every passing year, the number of children in Bulgaria continues to decrease. Even in the smallest children's settlement we have, they do not receive care to ensure a happy childhood.

How We Can Help Together for Children

The role of the National Network for Children (NNC) is to advocate to politicians and state institutions for better laws and policies for our children. Every day, we work to ensure that our children have better access to quality healthcare, child-friendly justice, attend school, and that their families receive support.

Our strength comes from the unity of all 130 organizations in Bulgaria that help 150,000 children and 20,000 families every year.

For nearly 20 years, the National Network for Children has created a bridge between the civil sector and state institutions, contributing to a better life for children and families in our country.

We cannot manage on our own, so we need your support!

With the regular support of our montly individual donors, we are fighting for:

  • The establishment of a National Children’s Hospital, which will provide adequate medical care for children, and to ensure accessible healthcare for all children.
  • Access to quality education for every child in the country, including early childhood education and care, and early childhood development services.
  • Laws that help families raise their children peacefully and support them in difficult life situations.
  • Children living without fear and violence in their families, on the streets, and in schools.
  • Children not being questioned like adults in court when facing their abuser.
  • Every child living in poverty not going to bed hungry and relying solely on the food provided in school or kindergarten.
