The poverty line in Bulgaria is 295 leva average per person per month. There are 1, 565 million people who live under this threshold announced yesterday the National Statistical Institute quoting data sent and confirmed by Eurostat. The poor population in the country is approximately 21 %. The quota will double to 40,8 % if the social transfers – unemployment benefits, pensions, etc. are taken out.
The poverty in Bulgaria is more acute in families with 3 children and more, the lone parents and households consisting of one adult. 65,2 % of the families with more children are poor as well as 61,6 % of the lone pensioners over 65 years. The families with two parents and one child are least poor- only 13,7 %.
