More than 90 candidates for Members of Parliament in Bulgaria’s 49th National Assembly have signed the “Become a Defender of Children” declaration. Those who are elected after April 2 will become part of the “Parliamentary Group for Children” – a cross-party coalition, initiated by the National Network for Children. The informal group aims to once again bring together MPs from various political parties who share the understanding that policies for children and families should be a priority, and that the Bulgarian Parliament should be the primary guarantor of the best opportunities for life, development, and future for every child.
“Success on election day is only a success if it translates into meaningful policies that improve the lives of citizens, especially children and families,” said Plamena Nikolova, Director of “Policies for Children” at the National Network for Children.
Candidates for Members of Parliament can contribute to a better future for children and families in Bulgaria by supporting policies that break the vicious cycle of poverty and social exclusion, by working for reform of the child protection system, and by adopting a national strategy for children.
With the “Parliamentary Group for Children” initiative, we at the National Network for Children are once again calling for consensus and constructive joint work between civil society organizations and those in power on the most important issues for children. We believe that together we can achieve positive changes in policies for children and families, and we will continue to work towards this goal.
