International Roma Day is celebrated annually by the United Nations and the European Union on 8 April. On this day, we pay tribute to the innocent victims of Roma origin who died in the death camps during the Holocaust. The choice of date is not accidental, as we commemorate the liberation of the Roma from the Auschwitz concentration camp at the end of the Second World War.
That day is a symbol of the free Roma spirit and their desire to live in peace and understanding with all ethnic groups.
As we honor Roma culture and history in Bulgaria and Europe, together with Eurochild, we continue to work together for the benefit of Roma children in Bulgaria in order to promote stronger cooperation between stakeholders to improve Roma integration in our country.
With this in mind, Eurochild has published a report on Roma children based on their 2024 data. The document highlights the specific challenges and opportunities facing Roma children in Europe.
