After the announcement of the names of the new Members of Parliament, we can now officially announce that a total of 35 politicians in the composition of the new Parliament have signed our declaration “Become a Defender of Children” and thereby become part of the Parliamentary Group for Children in the 49th National Assembly.
The group includes representatives from four out of the six parties and coalitions represented in the next Parliament. Through their signature, they have expressed their willingness to work towards improving policies for children and the well-being of children and families in Bulgaria according to their areas of competence. The commitment they have made to the National Children’s Network binds them to advocate for a better normative and legal framework, more effective legislation, and constant dialogue with the executive authorities, responsible institutions, and civil society.
After this fifth pre-election campaign, the candidates who have signed our declaration “Become a Defender of Children” now number over 250. Among the current 35 who enter the National Assembly and will have the tools to change policies for children for the better are: 18 representatives from the PP-DB coalition, 11 from the GERB-SDS coalition, 2 from BSP, and 4 from DPS.
We wish all Members of Parliament the best of luck in achieving real change.
We, the National Children’s Network, will support their efforts and closely monitor their work because there are still many important issues in the field of children’s policies that remain unresolved.
Among them are several focus topics on which we will continue to demand specific and urgent actions. These include the establishment of a National Children’s Hospital, guaranteed funding through the National Health Insurance Fund for all special medical foods for children and adults, state funding for the Safer Internet Center, changes in adoption legislation, a ban on gambling advertising, and many more. We will also insist that the permanent committee in the National Assembly, traditionally formed as the Committee on Children, Youth, and Sports, be voted as the Committee on Children, Youth, and Family in the new 49th National Assembly.
