There are more Bulgarian children born between 2002 and 2009 compared to previous decade according to Economic and Social Counsel statistics. A steady trend however is that more children are being born outside marriage.
In urban areas the number of children born in marriage and those outside of marriage is almost equal. That’s not the case in rural areas, however, where children born outside marriage are 75% more than those being born in marriage. This is mostly so due to tendency of youth pregnancy and under-18 mothers.
