According to the latest research of Eurostat almost half of the Bulgarian children live at risk of poverty. 44 % of the children in 2010 were at risk of poverty or social exclusion – an indicator according to which we are at first place of Europe. The situation with adults is not better – over 42 % of them are threatened by poverty or social exclusion – again the highest value among the member states. Right away behind Bulgaria is Romania with 41 % and Latvia with 38 %. The lowest percentage for risk of poverty and social exclusion is registered in the Check republic (14 %), Sweden and the Netherlands (15 %) and in Austria, Luxemburg and Finland (17 %) show the data of Eurostat. 115 million people or 23,4 % of the population of the 27 member states were facing risk of poverty or social exclusion in 2010.
