40 000 Families Need Donor Egg in Bulgaria

Around 40 000 families need a donor egg to have a baby in Bulgaria, according to reproductive medicine specialist Dr. George Stamenov.

There are between 220 and 250 thousands of families suffering from sterility. The missing of vial eggs in the woman or exhausted chance for in vitro procedure with own eggs in around 40 000 of them insists on finding an issue in an egg donation program.

300 women and 47 men donors have included through the Association for people with reproductive problems in the donor program since its launch in 2011. There are around 70 women from February, 2013 until now. The donors are 25-34 years old, living in Sofia, Varna, Plovdiv, Ruse, Burgas, Bansko, Dobrich, Silistra, Kneja and others.

Not every woman could become egg donor. The legislation demands  an age up to 34 years and at least one child born.

A notary should certify the egg donation wish.

The preparation and examination for egg extraction take between 9 and 13 days. The egg itself is extracted  by puncture under full anesthesia for 3 to 5 minutes, according to a woman who has had the procedure

The Donation is anonymous and free of charge.

All data for donors and recipients are kept in the clinics, performing the IVF procedures. The same information is stored in the Executive Agency for Transplantation.
