Children are the greatest wealth of Bulgaria and all parties and coalitions must unite in their favor – guided by this belief, the National Network for Children continues the initiative “Parliamentary Group for Children”. The invitation to join the supra-party union is open to candidates for MPs in the 47th National Assembly who are ready to defend children’s rights.
The initiative expresses the public need for clear goals and priorities in children’s policies and has the idea to consolidate all political forces for the benefit of children.
The campaign will help future MPs to obtain more in-depth and complete information on issues related to children and families, and thus work more effectively for them.
According to the World Bank’s Human Capital Index, a child born now in Bulgaria will develop only 61% of his or her potential as an adult, provided he or she completes the full cycle of education and receives full access to health care. That is why a vision and a strategy are needed, in accordance with the challenges and deficits in the children’s policies in our country and with the requirements of the European Union.
During the April and July elections, more than 200 politicians from seven political forces joined the informal union. They all signed a Declaration on the Protection of Children, pledging to work on key issues in the areas of health, education, poverty and social exclusion, and justice.
As part of the campaign, a detailed analysis of the programs of the political forces related to children and families was made, and this provoked some of the formations to upgrade their concepts.
“Future rulers and those in opposition have a lot of work to do to fulfill their duty to the children. “A parliamentary group for children is an opportunity for active interaction between MPs, parents, experts and civil society, which will continue after the elections,” said Georgi Bogdanov, executive director of the National Network for Children.
