On November 26 and 27, 2020, a web conference „Child’s right to protection from violence” was organized by Legal Aid Network – part of National Network for Children.
The event brought together lawyers and jurists from the country working on cases involving children, in order to exchange experiences and share views on the necessary legislative changes to make the protection of children’s rights in the country truly effective.
Guest speakers at the conference were: the Ombudsman of the Republic of Bulgaria Assoc. Prof. Dr. Diana Kovacheva and Dr. Eva Zhecheva, Director of the “Rights of the Child” Directorate at the Ombudsman; Judge Verginia Micheva of the Sofia City Court; Ms. Lyubov Stoycheva, Lawyer in the Enforcement Division of the ECtHR at the European Court of Human Rights; adv. Adela Kachaunova, Legal Program Director of the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee, Attorney at Law Sofia Razboynikova, member of the Board of the Bulgarian Lawyers for Human Rights Foundation and Ms. Deana Dimova, psychologist working with families and children in crisis, manager of the Dynamics Center Association.
The focus of the event was the national and European legal framework of the child’s right to protection from violence and the ways in which children’s rights are actually protected.
The conference ended with an appeal to lawyers from all over the country working in the field of children’s rights to join the Legal Aid Network and participate in initiating strategic cases aimed at changing the legal framework and ensuring maximum protection of children’s rights in Bulgaria.
