Thematic working groups “Health” and “Family” of the National Network for Children gathered on February 12 and 12, 2015 in Targovishte.
The Club of NGOs – Targovishte was host of the event. It was attended by nearly 40 representatives of NNC’ member organizations who discussed key issues in both areas. The meetings aimed to agree on common priority subjects in designated areas and framework campaigns for changes on national and local level. Furthermore, the event generated opportunity to exchange best practices and experience, to create contacts and partnerships among member organizations.
The participants in TWG “Family” agreed on the priority to introduce comprehensive family policy to support families, responsible parenthood. This policy should not be based on sanctions and penalties.
TWG “Health” members defined that it is necessary to introduce working practices at maternity hospitals not only to prevent babies abandon, but also to completely support good practices for child care, including social care workers in maternity wards, prenatal and postnatal patronage etc.
During the 2 –day event a meeting with representatives of Municipality of Targovishte , Regional Education Office and Regional Health Office was held. Its participants discussed the need to develop integrated health and social services. Furthermore 3 practices were visited: “Toys library” of Club of NGOs – Targovishte, Service “Mother and baby” of Entity for children and family social care services in Targovishte – International social care service Bulgaria and Resident service “Family Type Accommodation Center”.
TWG “Health” and “Juvenile Justice” will be held on February 19 and 20, 2015. There host will be Center of Interethnic Dialog and Tolerance – Amalipe. Participants during the meetings will search for advocacy priorities, will visit interesting practices, among which will be one of the chosen school to take part in NNC’s “Community school” project and a special entity for children’s hearing in the Court of Veliko Tarnovo.
