National Network for Children is pleased to announce that thirty-five of people’s representatives in the 48th National Assembly will form a Parliamentary Group for Children.
All of them have signed the declaration of the campaign “Become a defender of children”. Through their signature, they declare their willingness to work to improve policies for children and the well-being of children and families in Bulgaria according to their sphere of competence, by actively advocating for a better normative and legal framework, more effective legislation and constant dialogue with the executive authority, the responsible institutions and civil society – including the children themselves.
The new Parliamentary group for children includes representatives of five political parties and formations: 10 from Democratic Bulgaria, 9 from GERB, 8 from Continuing the Change and 4 from Bulgarian Socialist Party and 4 from Movement for Rights and Freedoms.
Within the framework of this fourth election campaign, the candidates who signed the declaration have become more than 100, and in total for the four rounds of elections they are already more than 250.
Although in only six months of work, the Parliamentary Group for Children within the framework of the 47th National Assembly has shown that the joint work of the non-governmental sector and parliamentarians on topics of the well-being of Bulgarian children can be more than effective and solve problems that have been postponed for years due to a lack of political will.
We wish all the people’s representatives in the 48th National Assembly to successfully continue this practice and in all their actions and decisions to be guided by the principles, values and protection of children’s rights and with a thought for the future that we leave as a legacy to our children. We at the National Network for Children will support these efforts and closely monitor their work.
