Bulgarian Adoptee and Adopted Association – BAAA and National Network for Children organized on September 26, 2014, the first National informative adoption day in 15 cities in the country. 19 centers, providing services to children and families participated, each of which has prepared a special programme.
A number of 737 children were adopted in 2013, while the adoptee-candidates were 1470. 3248 children are registered in the Adoption Register by July, 2014.
To increase the society’s sensitivity and awareness about adoption and to promote the formation of communities of parents, who have adopted children, who support and help each other are among the chief goals, which the event’s organizers set.
“The idea to create this day in Bulgaria is in line with our desire to encourage families to make a step to adoption and to tell them where they could find support. That is why we created an online Register on the BAAA’s website to inform all professionals and organizations, working in the field of adoption, to provide them with varied materials as well as to announce where in Bulgaria adopter support groups gather”, Gergana Bogdanova, BAAA’s president said.
“The act of adoption means not only to accept the child, but also his history, no matter what it is. There is not a child, who cannot be adopted. There are children who are not ready to meet their adopters and adopters who are not clear about their desire for a child. The biggest gift for a child is to give him roots and wings”, Vesela Banova, psychoanalyst and president of NNC’s Management board said.
Georgi Bogdanov, executive director of National Network for Children, Svilena Palenkova, psychilogist from “For Our Children” foundation and Denitsa Todorova, social activity specialist in Social Activities and Practice Institute also made speeches during the press conference.
