The ban on advertising and sale of energy drinks to people under 18 will retard with at least three months. This became clear during the debate on the second reading of changes in the Health law.
The majority rejected the draft text, which introduced the ban, in order to await the European Commission’s decision on the matter and then re-introduce the amendments, clarify the health minister Desislava Atanasova.
NNC Comment:
Children’s health, understood as physical, mental and social well-being should be a leading value in decision making, directly or indirectly related to child health and welfare. So we sincerely hope that lawmakers will find sufficient grounds and reasons to vote changes quickly and to ban the sale of energy drinks to children, also the total ban on smoking in enclosed public places. We hope that an effective mechanism will be created, so that the active practice of the law is guaranteed, especially in small towns where there are still problems with the sale of alcoholic and tobacco products to children under 18, despite the existence of sufficient law decrees.
