More than 200 candidates for the Parliament declared that they will be part of the Parliamentarian group for children in 47 National Assembly. 32 MPs from 5 political forces in the 47th National Assembly supported the initiative “Parliamentary Group for Children”.
We congratulate them and wish them successful and inspired work with the thought of the most important priority of Bulgaria – children! We hope that, regardless of their party affiliation, they will actively support children’s rights and their best interests.
The new Parliament and government have a lot of work to do to fulfill their duty to the children. The first and urgent task is the adoption of a Strategy for the Child – for two years now in Bulgaria is missing this key document in the implementation of art. 1, paragraph 3 of the Child Protection Act. Its adoption is our commitment as a member of the European Union.
From this year, Bulgaria is also a part of the implementation of the European Child Guarantee – a unique financial and political opportunity to reduce child poverty throughout the EU and in particular in our country, ensuring and guaranteeing access to all children, especially those from vulnerable groups, to basic services and quality of life rights. In the coming months and years, the institutions have a huge responsibility to draw up a national plan and find the best way to turn policy measures and objectives and financial investments into working practices and services that will significantly improve children’s lives. We insist on focusing on the application of the Guarantee in order to make the most efficient use of this resource.
The initiative “Parliamentary Group for Children” continues and we invite the deputies from the 47th National Assembly to join it. In this way, they will show that for them children and the family are fundamental values and that they are ready to work for their rights, regardless of their political affiliation.
