On 31 May, on the eve of the International Children’s Day, the National Network for Children organizes a protest march against violence against children – from 11:00 to 13:30 in Sofia, in front of the Court House.
Why take to the streets?
In recent months we have witnessed an alarming increase in violence against children:
- Bullying by street gangs and aggression at school
- Domestic violence
- Online crime and sexual exploitation
The statistics are startling:
- Over 2,900 children were victims of crime in 2024 alone.
- Dozens killed or injured in road accidents
- 79,000 reports of illegal child pornography hosted in Bulgaria
- Record number of reports to 112 of domestic violence
Silence instead of support. Instead of protection, inaction.
The institutions that are supposed to protect children – courts, prosecutors, police, social services and schools – often do not act in time, do not work together or simply remain silent.
It is time to stand up. For our children.
We, the National Network for Children, together with parents, active citizens and supporters, are taking a stand. To make it clear: violence is not acceptable. Neither is inaction.
