The National Network for Children (NNC) and the Karin Dom Foundation have officially nominated Denitsa Dimitrova for the position of Deputy Ombudsman of the Republic of Bulgaria, within the procedure announced by the Ombudsman institution.
The Ombudsman and their deputies play a crucial role in protecting the rights of citizens and vulnerable groups. We need professionals with dedication, personal commitment, and sensitivity to social injustices—qualities that Denitsa Dimitrova embodies. Denitsa is a socially engaged expert with many years of experience in social policy and the rights of people with disabilities. As a former Member of Parliament (in the 40th National Assembly), she chaired the informal parliamentary group on interaction with people with disabilities and initiated legislative changes in their support.
For the past 14 years, she has been closely involved with the work of the Karin Dom Foundation, developing early intervention services and inclusive education for children with disabilities and their families. She has also been a long-term monthly donor to the National Network for Children.
As a person with a disability, Denitsa Dimitrova brings not only professional expertise but also a deeply personal perspective on the barriers faced by people in disadvantaged positions—from lack of accessible environments and education to denial of the right to work. Her story is one of resilience, knowledge earned through struggle, and solidarity with those whose voices often go unheard.
In her motivation letter, Denitsa expresses her commitment to numerous causes—from reforming medical assessments and access to quality assistive devices, to ensuring fair participation of people with disabilities in the labour market.
A special focus of her candidacy is on children’s rights, including access to inclusive education, social services, and healthcare. She emphasises that the child protection system and juvenile justice require urgent reform.
We at the National Network for Children and Karin Dom firmly believe that Denitsa Dimitrova is the Deputy Ombudsman Bulgaria needs—a professional with integrity, empathy, and a strong determination to drive change. Her nomination aligns with our values: protection of human rights, social justice, equality, and active participation.
