Irish Experts Teach Us How to Be Positive Parents

Experts from One Family, a leading Irish non-profit, will train 20 Bulgarian non-profit organizations in positive parenting in the middle of July. The purpose of the training, organized with the partnership of the National Network for Children, is to prepare trainers that will be able to support Bulgarian families in bringing up their children.

After the training ends there will be positive parenting specialists in 8 Bulgarian cities – Sofia, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Targovishte, Sliven, Kyustendil, Gotse Delchev and Velingrad. They will be able to support problem-facing parents to overcome difficulties and improve relationships inside the family. This will be possible by focusing on those parents’ strengths rather than labeling them ‘irresponsible’ and introducing a system of punishments.

“We believe that there are no people who deliberately choose to be irresponsible towards their children – they just don’t know how to be good parents. And sanctioning more and more them will not help them change,” George Bogdanov, the NNC Executive Director said. „The positive parenting training for trainers that we have organized with the kind support of One Family is part of our aim to support Bulgarian mothers and father to become even better parents.”

The training of Bulgarian experts will take place from 11 to 13 June in Sofia. It is going to be led by experts from the Irish organization One Family free of charge as part of the campaign for their 40th anniversary. All participants will receive their certificates personally from His Excellency John Rowan, Ireland’s Ambassador to Bulgaria, during a special reception at the Irish embassy in Bulgaria.
