We should close the process of deinstitutionalization with common efforts in the next 15 years. Over 6600 children in Bulgaria are placed in families of relatives and other 1600 are settled in foster families by the end of April, 2013. This is a guarantee that the policy included in the national strategy is realizing in accordance with the expectations of the Bulgarian sociatey.
These were the words of the minister of labour and social policy Hasan Ademov during its visit of Hospital “St. Sofia” with the Britain’s Prince Edward. They were there in oorder to meet social services workers and psychologists who help young mothers to make the right choice in case they are wondering whether to leave their new born babies.
The abandon’s prevention is a key stone of the deinstitutionalization process, confirmed professionals, working in that field.
Ademov declared that the idea for integral method of approach is especially important for the children at risk. Except the medical care, included in it, which is anyway obligatory for all little children, should also be embraced and the social support and psychological help to the parents in order to strengthen the prevention of chidlren abandon.
He also promised that after a detailed overview of the existing legislation in this field and with the support of the related institutions, hospitals and nongovernmental organizations, to change the law.
