From its creation 10 years ago, the Fund for Treatment of Children has supported the largest number of children in 2014 – 1248, informed Dnevnik.
In the same time the costs for 2014 are with 1 mln. BGN less than in 2013. Fund’s director Pavel Alexandrov explained that this saving is mainly due to the introduction of the European form S2. The major contribution to the economies is the introduction of European form S2. This document serves as a kind of state guarantee and allows Bulgarian children to be treated in leading clinics in the European Union at significantly lower prices than before. Thanks to it, the necessity to transfer money in advance for appropriate medication is avoided.
The Fund’s budget was 12 mln BGN for the last year. 7 mln. BGN of it were paid for treatment aborad and 4 mln. BGN for medication in Bulgaria. Fund’s budget for 2015 remains the same.
As the previous years, in 2014 the Fund accounts increase in applications of children who seek help for treatment in Bulgaria. Mostly medical products for operations are needed. In these cases, the Health Insurance Fund pays the operation itself, but the clinical pathway for the operation does not include costs for medical devices and the parents have to pay themselves or have to seek support from the Fund.
Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Vanyo Sharkov urged Bulgarians to donate funds for sick children. “Ministry of Health declares its strong support for the Fund, but let me say something more important – each of us can help in the treatment of children, who appealed to the Fund. Philanthropy is one of the best features of the Bulgarian. ” he said.
