Today at the SBAL Children’s Hospital „Prof. Dr. Ivan Mitev“ the first meeting of the Public Council for the construction of the National Children’s Hospital was held.
We preferred to call the meeting of the Public Council “preliminary” as it was not convened according to the rules. Nevertheless, all attendees did their best to make the discussion very useful, and raised the following questions:
- To clearly define the role and status of the Public Council, which, in order to do its job, need to be informed and empowered to do so.
- There is a need to comply with the convening rules, including sending out materials in advance and setting the topics of the meeting and issues to be discussed.
- The Public Council needs to receive all available information on the establishment of the National Children’s Hospital from the Health Investment Company and the Ministry of Health in order for its members to fulfill their role of making the process publicly accountable.
The whole conversation at the first meeting was looking ahead and seeking solutions on how the Public Council can fulfill its main task, which is to ensure transparency and control over the process of establishing the Children’s Hospital.
The next meeting of the Council will be in September, and until then we will insist that these issues be clarified.
