In Bulgaria 70 families apply every month for the adoption of a child, deprived of parental care, shows a research made by the newspaper “Monitor”.
“There are registered 283 candidate-adopters from the beginning of the year to the end of April, explained at “Monitor” representatives of the Social Assistance Agency. At present 1393 persons are waiting an approval for making an adoption.
Merely 254 children are adopted during the first four months of 2013. Children with disabilities are only 21 of them.
While the trend of adoption is lightly growing through the years, the number of foster families boosts. At present 1506 foster parents are taking care of 1479 children. A total of 232 Bulgarians during Q1 of 2013 have requested to look for a child, deprived of parental care. This means that on the average 77 families by month have been approved. In the same period 444 children were placed in foster families. The social services workers have approved 322 households which are still awaiting a child in their home.
