National Network for Children launches the second part of the project “Assembling the Puzzle: Sustainable Family-Oriented Approach and Early Intervention in Bulgaria“.
The goals of the project are to promote the need for early intervention in cases of problematic or risky development in children and support for their families. Also, the project aims to inform the institutions, state agencies and local authorities about this problem and how to handle it. The goal of the National Network for Children is to create a working network of services that provides full support to every family in the care of their children.
The project is being implemented for the third consecutive year by National Network for Children in partnership with non-governmental organizations and local authorities. It is funded by Foundation Open Society Institute in cooperation with the Early Childhood Program of the Open Society Foundations.
Early childhood intervention is a system of services dedicated to children up to the age of three with developmental and behavioral disabilities and their families. It gives a chance to parents to learn more about the specifics of their children and how they could reach their full potential. Various studies have shown that early childhood intervention is among the most successful in addressing early development issues. In some countries, such as United States, this approach achieves a positive impact to 70% of children with disabilities.
This year, during the project, the National Children Network for Children will provide trainings for parents, where they will learn to work together in the search for common solutions and measures in the process of guaranteeing their children`s rights and their full integration into society.
A manual will be also prepared as part of the program. It will present the experience of Varna Municipality and the Karin Dom Foundation on childhood intervention. Last year, it was included in the list of social services in Varna Municipality, where it is performed by specialists from the Karin Dom Foundation. So far, it remains the only municipality in Bulgaria adopted this act. Karin Dom has been providing the service since 2010, and by the end of October 2019 nearly 900 children have benefited from it.
Under the project “Assembling the Puzzle: Sustainable Family-Oriented Approach and Early Intervention in Bulgaria“ in 2019, the National Network for Children held a series of activities, including the first national conference in Bulgaria dedicated to the problem. A wide range of experts and professionals from Bulgaria and abroad participated in the event.
