Refugees in Bulgaria will no longer receive any money from the state. The benefit of 65 BGN per month, which was stopped last month, probably will not be renewed, reports vesti.bg, citing BTV.
By law, our country provides refugees with guaranteed social minimum – shelter and food, and money paid so far was due to the fact that until recently the food offered was not on a full board basis.
Since last year, however accommodation centres have a cook, and from April 1 this year all immigrants – nearly 3,000 people – will receive breakfast, in addition to lunch and dinner provided until now.
As thе country was paying twice for the same thing, according to the accounts of the State Agency for Refugees (SAR) Bulgaria lost nearly 2 mln. BGN within 10 months.
Many refugees have no side income. They worry, for example, what they would do if they get sick and need medications.
According to the law refugees have the same health rights as Bulgarian citizens. SAR states that no refugees have been left without medical care and that they enjoy free medical care .
By the end of the year it is expected more than 10 thousand refugees in the country to obtain status. This was announced days ago on BNR by President of SAR Nikola Kazakov. In his words, most of the arrivals in the country are Kurds from Syria and Iraq, almost half of those who came this year are uneducated.
A new, unified strategy for a comprehensive settlement of the refugee problem has been developed. Nikola Kazakov added that the European Commission is ready to grant Bulgaria more money for emergency measures in the refugee problem, besides the already agreed 10 mln. EUR.
