From 16 to 21 September Children’s Rights School gathered together 20 youths to train them in children’s and youth participation and active citizenship.
The camp was organized by National Network for Children (NNC) with support of the Youth Network ‘Megaphone’.
The event took place within six days in Uzana, Gabrovo, and brought together 20 youths and 10 adults which are professionals in the NNC member organizations across the country.
A team of facilitators trained youth participants in deeper understanding of their rights – what they mean, how to exercise them, when the rights are violated. One of the essential topics that was discussed was how freedom of opinion results in the right to participate.
The human and children’s rights topic was presented in a simple and easy to understand way including interactive sessions that allowed participants to show their creative thinking, team spirit, personal experience and knowledge.
Autumn Children’s Rights School launched a new program “Children and youth participation” of National Network for Children, which covers a two-year period. The newly formed working teams have already started work on their chosen topics, activities and support of NNC’s initiatives.
The next step is a ‘Spring meeting’ when young people and adult professionals will gather again to share how far they have come, to plan their next activities and to discuss and act as a real alumni.
