“I have a family too” Project Continues To May 2014

The Monitoring Committee of Operational Program “Human Resources Development” decided to extend to May 2014 the execution of project “I have a family too”.

The Social Assistance Agency through its “Child Protection” department in partnership with 83 municipalities in the country launched the project on September 30, 2011. Its total cost is 14,989 455.30 lev.

The project’s “Foster Care” core service provision was launched in May 2012 after the adoption of necessary changes in the Social Assistance Act, empowering mayors to provide foster care services, to accept applications of prospective foster parents and to act as their employer.

Partner municipalities have received 1,370 applications of prospective foster parents and the foster care committees have approved 646 foster families by the end of July, 2013. A total of 695 children have been included in the service. The project envisages 600 children to be placed in foster homes and 500 people to become foster parents.

The project’s extension will contribute to increase the number of children placed in a family friendly environment and to improve the care for them.
