Four specialized institutions for children residential care were closed in August 2013. They are as follows: the Home for children deprived of parental care in Burgas, while simultaneously a Center for family-type accommodation for 8 children was opened; the Home for children deprived of parental care in Novo Selo, at Vidin municipality, where also a Center for family-type accommodation for 12 children started to operate. The Homes for children deprived of parental care in Kyustendil and Omurtag were closed.
With these four establishments, the closed institutions for children in Bulgaria for 2013 reached the number of 14. The existing homes for children deprived of parental care remain 53.
The released financial resources will be reinvested in social services for children and families at risk in the community in order to ensure quality care and that children are raised in a close to family environment.
