Another 4 million BGN are provided for the operation of the “Fund for treatment of children” abroad, said the director Pavel Alexandrov, who had returned to his position by the Minister Dr. Miroslav Nenkov, year after being released by the previous Minister Dr. Tanya Andreeva.
The money is provided by the Ministry of Finance after a conversation between Dr. Nenkov and the Finance Minister Rumen Porozhanov. “The fund has a capital of 6 million BGN – the money was not enough and was not well planned. The money is already spent, but the Fund may rely on another 4 million BNG until the end of the year, ” Alexandrov said.
He promised to efficiently organize the Fund’s resources. There will be a discussion about the options to stabilize the Fund at a next meeting with the Deputy Ministers of Health.
According to Alexandrov, there is a suspicion of costs duplication, which is why the money had been already spent after mid-year. Currently the treatment of 700 children is funded and the cases of 30 more children are inspected.
“We expect until the end the year the treatment of around 600 children to begin, we have have clinics abroad, with which we work. It’s nice to reassure parents that we will do everything possible and that there is no problem with the Fund”, Pavel Alexandrov assured.
Among children, whose treatment will be funded, is the 10-year-old boy who is in vigil coma after falling from 10 meters in the fountain of the National Palace of Culture.
“The Fund does not finance only treatment that is not carried out in Bulgaria – the case is specific, because of the clinical pathways and the fact the he cannot be accepted for treatment in hospital. The fund is created for this – to assist the system when it does not work correctly”, Pavel Alexandrov said.
